Safe Haven
PEP was approached by an affiliate organisation called Sizakuyenza to assist with design, construction and project management of a ‘Safe Haven for Abused Women and Children as well as an HIV testing and counselling centre. This centre was to be situated on piece of land in the heart of several informal settlements within the Western Cape.
Besides the design of the centre, the entire exercise was also to be used as a training ground for aspirant FEDUP builders, project mangers and provided a valuable opportunity for on site-training. Although a local contractor was employed to oversee the work, he was also contractually obliged to use local labour and skilled artisans wherever possible and simultaneously provides technical skills training.
